2nd Railway Festival Nördlingen

From Thursday, May 18th to Sunday, May 21st, 2023, the 2nd Railway Festival Nördlingen will take place in the Bavarian Railway Museum. This weekend, the Nördlingen depot will come to life again as the place where historical locomotives are used. Let's experience together how railway operations worked in the past.

The active members of the Bayerisches Eisenbahnmuseum e.V. look forward to your visit!

Exhibition and operation – a unique combination

In the surroundings of the historic facilities of the Nördlingen museum depot, the exhibits are presented in changing configurations and the operational locomotives are demonstrated in service. Observe the staff when shunting the exhibits and preparing the special trains. Watch the locomotive crews up close as they restore the locomotives ("restoring" includes topping up the locomotive supplies with water and coal, and greasing the bearings and slagging out). revive times past.

As a special experience, we offer the opportunity to acquire an honorary locomotive driver's license (minimum age 18 years) for an additional charge: Learn the basics of operating a steam locomotive in the driver's cab and finally drive independently within the grounds under expert guidance.

In expert guided tours you will learn a lot of interesting facts about the facilities, the vehicles and our association.

A ride in the historic steam train

Experience the fascination of railways - for us, that doesn't just mean looking! Rather, we want to convey what traveling used to be like and how it worked. That's why we're offering shuttle trips in the historic steam train between Nördlingen and Donauwörth and Nördlingen and Gunzenhausen this weekend.

A zone tariff applies. The price level required for the trip is determined by adding the zone prices from the table above. Tickets are usually sold on the train by the train conductor. Deutsche Bahn tickets (i.e. Bayern-Ticket, Schönes-Wochenende-Ticket, etc.) are not valid on the trains of the Bavarian Railway Museum. Bicycles are transported free of charge. Since the historic carriages are not barrier-free, we ask that you register in advance. Groups of 20 or more receive price reductions if they register in advance (at least two days before departure). Our General Conditions of Carriage apply.

Dining in a special atmosphere

To round off the experience, we offer regional food and drinks in the locomotive shed. Various delicacies are offered in cooperation with the Fürst Wallerstein brewery and the Höllenbeck butcher's shop and round off the day's experience for the whole family.

Entrance fees and arrival

Admission is €15 for adults and €7 for children (5-14 years). We recommend arriving comfortably with the historical special train or with the regional train. If you do use your car, we ask you to park in the multi-storey car park at the train station or in the car park at Deininger-Tor.

You can get entry wristbands at the ticket office in the museum or in the goods station, or if you book a special guest train from your tour operator.

Arrive in a special train

We are particularly pleased about the numerous special guest trains from our partner clubs that have registered for our festival. This creates the opportunity to travel from many parts of Germany in proper style and without having to change trains directly to the railway festival in Nördlingen.

The organizers sent us the following detailed information on the special guest trains; More information will follow shortly.
